NEW Freesurf Sessions

As a local, you now have even more freedom: you get exclusive access to our Freesurf Sessions – no briefing, guiding, or coaching required, just surfing! These sessions are only available at the Advanced and Expert levels and can only be viewed and booked by locals in the booking calendar.

Important:

  • Participation only with active local status
  • As a local, you will receive an activation link by email and can book your Freesurf Session after confirming the link
  • Simply arrive at the briefing zone 5 minutes before the session starts – this is where attendance is checked, Lycra is handed out, and the order is determined (those who arrive late cannot participate)
  • Freesurf sessions can be found in the booking calendar from December 1.

Prerequisite: You must be able to surf safely and independently without the support of a guide at your chosen level (Advanced & Expert).

Note:

In beginner sessions (first-timers, rookies, kids), progressive sessions, and all coaching sessions, the briefing is still mandatory—regardless of local status.

Surf Sessions and Courses

You can currently make your dream of a tube ride come true in our Expert Session in A-Frame mode. In the first half of our Expert A-Frame Session, you'll get a turn-focused wave for vertical top-to-bottom surfing, followed by hollow breaking waves for barrel rides in the second half.

Once you have unlocked the Freesurf Sessions, this will be shown in your SURFTOWN account under “Trophies and Benefits.”

You can unlock and book Freesurf Sessions in our booking calendar by activating them in your SURFTOWN account. Once you reach Local Status, you’ll receive an email with the link to do so.

During a Freesurf Session, you surf completely independently – without any briefing, guiding, or coaching. Important: Please make sure to check in with the coach at least 5 minutes before your session so we can confirm your participation, hand out your Lycra, and determine the surfing order. The session runs with the usual duration. Please note: If you arrive late, you won’t be able to join the session!

Info: A lifeguard will, of course, be present throughout the entire session to ensure safety in the pool. Please make sure you can surf confidently at your chosen level (Advanced or Expert). Failure to follow the usual rules may result in exclusion from the session.

To join a Freesurf Session, you need to have SURFTOWN Local Status. Once you’ve obtained it, you’ll receive an email notification and can then activate your access to the Freesurf Sessions.

Since these sessions take place without any briefing or guiding, it’s also important that you can surf confidently and independently at your chosen level – Advanced or Expert – and that you have full control of your timing and positioning when catching waves without tips from a guide.

During our Freesurf Sessions, you surf completely independently – without any briefing, guiding, or coaching. They are offered only at the Advanced and Expert levels and can be booked in both A-Frame and Point Break modes.

To book and participate in a Freesurf Session, you need to have SURFTOWN Local Status. Once you have achieved this and activated your Freesurf Session access, the sessions will automatically appear in our booking calendar.

Each surf session includes at least 55 minutes of water time in the wave pool.

Depending on the skill level, every session also features a detailed briefing and debriefing outside the pool.

In total, sessions last between 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours.

There will be a maximum of 14 surfers per Surfzone, depending on the mode you will get a minimum of 10 or 12 waves. Just like in the ocean, you will surf your wave and paddle back into the lineup afterwards. Our surf coaches and lifeguards make sure that there is a non-competitive and good vibe on the water so everyone will have a great surf experience. Like this we can guarantee a fair amount of wave attempts per session for every surfer.

In our wave pool, surfing takes place in up to four different zones at the same time. There is a maximum of 14 surfers per surf zone. Due to the limited number of surfers per zone, you are guaranteed a fair amount of wave attempts in a relaxed lineup.

Our Kids, First-Timer, Rookie, and Progressive-Coached Sessions include dedicated coaching from our professional surf coaches. In the Progressive-Guided, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, an experienced guide is available to provide tips and answer any questions. Starting at the Expert level, you can enjoy our "free surf" sessions, where you ride the waves without a coach or guide.

All our sessions are continuously monitored by our professional lifeguards.

For the Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert levels, we are also developing specialized coaching options that will be available in the near future.

Our regular session-packages can be used in the A-Frame mode and in the Beginner-Zone.

For our Pointbreak mode we offer separate packages.

At O2 SURFTOWN MUC, you can surf any surfboard you like. From shortboards to longboards, we offer suitable waves for every style and level of surfing. With our surf rental you have the opportunity to test high-quality surfboards of all shapes and sizes. Our beginner sessions include learner-friendly softboards.

For children aged 6 to 10, we offer special surf courses with a playful coaching approach. Currently, we do not offer any family packages - but you can of course enjoy a surf session as a family with your kids from the age of 11 years.

For independent and safe bodyboarders, we can offer to participate in our regular surf sessions from the Intermediate level. Currently, we do not offer beginner courses or special sessions for bodyboarders. For safety reasons we do not allow surfing with stand-up paddle boards in our regular surf sessions. However, we are planning to offer special stand-up paddle sessions in the future.

In our beginner zone, only softboards are permitted. These are included in the session price. If you have your own softboard, you’re welcome to bring it along.

For the Progressive Session (coached), only softboards are allowed. However, in the Progressive Session (guided), you can use a hardboard.

From the Intermediate level onward, you’re more than welcome to bring your own hardboard.

We recommend you arriving about an hour before your session starts. This will allow you plenty of time to check in, rent your equipment, and change, so you can start to your briefing stress-free and on time.

The briefing is mandatory for safety reasons before every session. Please allow enough time to be at the appropriate briefing zone on time and ready to surf.

Yes, you’re welcome to book multiple sessions back-to-back so you can surf continuously without taking long breaks. Please inform both the check-in staff and your surf coach in advance if you’ve booked two sessions for the same day. However, it’s important that you briefly exit the water after your first session to check in with your surf coach for the second session. This ensures everything runs smoothly and that all participants are accounted for.

In our A-Frame mode, you have to decide before booking whether you want to surf lefts or rights in a session. Changing the side of the wave during a session is not possible.

In our A-Frame mode, waves breaks from the center of the surf pool to the left and right. This creates rights and lefts simultaneously.
In our Point Break mode, the waves run along the entire length of the pool. Our Point Break mode allows waves with rides up to 18 seconds long.

In our Pointbreak mode we offer sessions for the surf levels Intermediate, Advanced and Expert.

Safety and Rules

Currently, your Local Status does not expire once earned. If anything changes in the future, we’ll notify you in advance.

Please make sure to be at your briefing zone at least 5 minutes before the session starts. The coach will check you in and hand out your Lycra. Arriving late means you may miss your session – even with Local Status.

The briefing can only be skipped as a Local in sessions at Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert levels. In Beginner sessions (First-Timer, Rookie, and Kids), Progressive sessions and Coachings the briefing remains mandatory – regardless of your Local Status.

You’ll automatically receive SURFTOWN Local Status once you’ve attended at least 5 briefings at Intermediate level or higher – there’s no need to apply. Once you’ve reached Local Status, we’ll notify you via email. From then on, our surf guides will know that you no longer need to attend the briefing.

Important: Please still be at your briefing zone no later than 5 minutes before the session starts to check in and collect your Lycra.

As soon as you’ve reached Local Status, we’ll automatically notify you via email.

In general, our surf sessions take place in all weather conditions, as long as there are no safety concerns for participants in the water. If we have to cancel or interrupt the surf session for safety reasons (such as during a thunderstorm), a voucher for the session will be provided as a replacement if the session is interrupted for 15 minutes or more and the minimum of wave attempts promised per person is not reached.

If the minimum of promised wave attempts per person was reached, there will be no replacement or reimbursement of the session.

At O2 SURFTOWN MUC, we want to make surfing accessible to everyone. That's why you can learn to surf at SURFTOWN even without any previous surfing experience or surf equipment. It is required for you to be able to swim independently (at least 25m) and be in a good overall physical condition. The minimum age for regular surf sessions is 11 years but we also offer special surf courses for kids from the age of 6.
You can find the full list of requirements that you need to fulfill in order to surf at our surf park here. Please read them carefully before your session.
If you are unsure due to physical or health limitations, please feel free to reach out to us!

We offer special surf lessons for kids aged 6 to 11, where our experienced instructors teach surfing in a fun and playful way. To participate, children should be able to swim at least 25 meters. From the age of 11, kids will join our regular surf sessions.*

*In exceptional cases, children under the age of 11 are also allowed to participate in regular sessions. Certain conditions and requirements must be met for this.

Each of our surf sessions is monitored by professional and specially trained lifeguards. Your safety is our top priority.

Surfing is only allowed during the scheduled sessions. For safety and organizational reasons, we don’t offer "free surfing." However, you can book a session on-site at the check-in, depending on availability.

For environmental reasons, we don’t heat the pool. To ensure you have an optimal surfing experience even during the colder months, we offer high-quality Rip Curl wetsuits in various thicknesses and a winter kit (hood, boots, and gloves) in our Surf Rental.

The water temperature varies depending on the season. You can always see the current water temperature directly on the startpage of our website.

Generally, participation in the Safety Briefing is mandatory before each session in order to be able to surf. Once you've reached SURFTOWN Local Status for a specific surf level, you're no longer required to attend the briefing. You can choose to skip it and go straight to your session – just make sure to be at your briefing zone at least 5 minutes before the session starts to check in and collect your Lycra.

However, for Beginner sessions (First-Timer, Rookie, Kids) as well as Progressive sessions, the briefing remains mandatory – regardless of your Local Status.

Our surf sessions are continuously monitored by professional and specially trained lifeguards. In the event of an accident, we have established emergency procedures to ensure that you receive prompt and optimal care. Our safety concept is designed to minimize risks and prevent potential dangers.

In order to guarantee the best and safest surfing experience for all surfers, swimming in the wave pool is not permitted.
