The German Surf Championships make history

Hallbergmoos, October 13, 2024 - A weekend full of surfing action! The German Surf Championships took place on German soil for the first time in 28 years, creating a historic moment at Germany's first surf park. Over 10,000 enthusiastic spectators flocked to Hallbergmoos this weekend to see 123 of the country's best surfers live, while thousands more watched the thrilling finals on Sportschau and YouTube.

On the very first day of the competition, there was a special sense of excitement: surfers traveled from all corners of the country to show off their skills in the various categories and be part of a historic moment. The media attention and visitor numbers underline how Germany is slowly establishing itself as a surfing nation on the world map and making history in the sports world with this debut.

Camilla Kemp, Germany's first female Olympic surfer for Paris 2024, faced the country's best female surfers with unwavering fighting spirit. In a nerve-wracking competition, she secured the title of German Champion 2024. Camilla is passionate about inspiring more young women to take up surfing and shows what is possible and how Munich, as a surfing hotspot, offers a suitable training venue for this sport, which for so long could only be practiced by the sea.

Winners: Shortboard - Open Women:

1st place: Camilla Kemp (German Champion 2024, Shortboard Open Women)

Tim Elter, who managed to beat Leon to take part in the 2024 Olympic Games, nevertheless delivered a strong performance but secured the runner-up spot.

The championships sent a strong signal for the future of surfing in Germany. The inclusion of para-surfing and the disciplines of stand-up paddling (SUP) and longboard in a wave pool for the first time in the world shows that surfing can be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, gender or physical limitations - a world premiere on German soil.
