Germany's first surf park on National Geographic

Hallbergmoos/Munich, September 2025 – O₂ SURFTOWN MUC is featured in the new National Geographic documentary “Europe's Engineering Marvels”, highlighting it as one of Europe's most innovative engineering projects. In the “Germany” episode, which will be broadcast on October 25 and November 1, viewers will get their first exclusive look behind the scenes of the surf park in northern Munich. From the construction phase to the complex flow technology to the test runs of the waves.

The six-part documentary series focuses on the continent's greatest technical masterpieces and tells how bold ideas and engineering skills are turned into real buildings. O₂ SURFTOWN MUC represents a new generation of sports and leisure facilities: technically highly complex, sustainably planned, and designed as a meeting place for an entire region.

The facility is considered the world's most modern surf pool:

  • 34 pneumatic pressure chambers that generate precise and identical waves
  • Waves up to over two meters high, individually programmable
  • 180-meter-long pool in a kidney-shaped design

“With this documentation, we are providing insight for the first time into how much engineering expertise goes into our facility—from theoretical flow simulations to wave test runs, which are added to the public booking calendar after precise fine-tuning,” says Chris Boehm-Tettelbach, founder and managing director of O₂ SURFTOWN MUC. “This makes it clear how much technology and detailed work goes into the perfect surfing experience.”

The episode thus provides a unique insight into the history of the project and shows how a vision became a new sporting landmark for Germany.

**Broadcast dates:
Starting September 24, 2025, every Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. on National Geographic (paid TV)

The Germany episode featuring O₂ SURFTOWN MUC will air on October 25 at 9:45 p.m. and on November 1 at 1:30 p.m..
