Germanys first surf park just opened!

Hallbergmoos, 10 August 2024 - Today marked an important milestone for surfing in Germany: The O2 SURFTOWN MUC, Germany's first and Europe's largest surf park, ceremoniously opened its doors. The press conference, which took place under a bright sky, offered a first glimpse into the future of surfing. The project is already attracting national and international attention.

A revolutionary step for German surfing

"With SURFTOWN, a centre for surfing is being created here in Bavaria that will set standards far beyond our state borders. It is a place that attracts top athletes and leisure enthusiasts alike," explained Georg Eisenreich, Bavarian State Minister of Justice. "I am delighted that such an innovative project has been created in Bavaria."

"It was more than just a press conference - it was a glimpse into the future of surfing, into a new dimension of leisure activities and surfing," said Chris Boehm-Tettelbach, founder and CEO of SURFTOWN, summarising the press conference. The atmosphere was electrifying as the first waves broke after the countdown and the shimmering turquoise water lit up. "Our vision is to make surfing accessible to everyone. Today's opening has shown what will happen here in the next few years and what is possible."

At the centre of the event was Camilla Kemp, Germany's first female Olympic surfer, who arrived at the O2 SURFTOWN MUC fresh from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She emphasised: "This surf park is an absolute game changer. I'm really looking forward to this new training centre, to training here and developing my skills. It's a dream to be able to surf just outside Munich and inspire a new generation to surf."

Leon Glatzer, the first German Olympic surfer, Tokyo 2021, was also enthusiastic about the possibilities of the new surf park: "Finally we have a place in Germany where we can train under ideal conditions and develop the sport further - everything we need is right on our doorstep."

Josef Niedermair, 1st Mayor of Hallbergmoos, emphasised the regional importance of the surf park: "The O2 SURFTOWN MUC is not only a sporting highlight, but also a significant economic driver for our community. It is impressive to see how this project attracts people from all over the world and enriches our town."

International radiance

The O2 SURFTOWN MUC stands out thanks to its globally unique wave technology, which uses 34 individually adjustable air chambers to generate precise waves up to 2.2 metres high - at the touch of a button, just like a piano. This technology not only makes the O2 SURFTOWN MUC a flagship project for German surfing, but also attracts international attention. Compared to the well-known Eisbach wave in Munich, which offers a standing wave 10 metres wide, the 180-metre-long O2 SURFTOWN opens up a completely new dimension of surfing that is similar to surfing in the sea and attracts both regional surfers and international professionals.

Technological innovation and sustainability combined

The O2 SURFTOWN MUC also sets new standards in terms of sustainability. "The system is already powered by its own solar energy and green electricity. In addition, the direct connection to a local solar park, including an electricity storage system, will increase the self-sufficiency to up to 90% with solar energy in future," emphasised Chris Boehm-Tettelbach.

Looking forward to the Opening Festival - An unforgettable weekend

The press conference marks the start of a weekend full of highlights that nobody should miss. The anticipation for the upcoming Opening Festival is already palpable. Thousands of visitors are expected to experience the unique experience of O2 SURFTOWN MUC up close.
